The Downfall of Macbeth Essay Example For Students

The Downfall of Macbeth Essay Is everyone defeated or brought down from power at some time? Often, in a tragedy or drama, the main hero experiences a downfall. However, just as the downfall of a tragic hero varies, so do the causes of this downfall. Throughout the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, many factors contributed to the downfall of Macbeth such as fate, errors in his judgment, and the main factor being flaws in his character. Among the causes of Macbeths fall from power and grace, fate was the least important and influential. However, fate did have quite an impact on why Macbeth was brought down. For instance, Macbeth relied too heavily upon the prophecies of the Werd Sisters, and took everything they said for granted. When the Werd Sisters would give Macbeth their different predictions for what would happen, he would believe them and would take no actions of his own to ensure his own safety or well-being. Macbeth believed that what was predicted would happen and he would be prosperous and safe as king without any effort on his part. He also relied completely on the witches to tell him of his future. This specific point was illustrated when he said, Stay you imperfect speakers. Tell me more (I, iii, l. 73). Yet another example of how Macbeth heavily relied on fate was when he was visited with the visions of the armed head, the bloody child, and the crowned child with a tree in hand. Macbeth took the sayin gs of the three apparitions to heart and did not worry about his safety due to their predictions. He went through the rest of the play not afraid of any man due to what the second apparition, the bloody child, told him. This apparition said to Macbeth, The power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth (IV, i, ll. 91-92). Both these reliances by Macbeth on fate caused him not to worry about anything and not to prepare for his safety, which came back to get him and led to his fall from grace and his death. The second most influential factor on the downfall of Macbeth in this tragedy involves his many errors in judgment. Among his many errors in judgment, one of them is Macbeths unnecessary murder of quite a few individuals. In doing so, Macbeth may have gotten rid of his foe at that moment in time, but he also lost many allies and created many enemies who vowed revenge. Throughout the killing spree of Macbeth, he made enough enemies that they combined forces and were able to defeat the tyrant Macbeth in the end. This flaw was illustrated when all the armies of Macbeths many foes came together at Birnam Wood (V, iv, l. 5). It was there that all the armies teamed up and went on the march to defeat the king Macbeth. Macbeth unnecessarily killed many different individuals through the play. First, Macbeth had the kind king Duncan done away with. This was in order for Macbeth to fulfill the prophecy of himself becoming king, and was for his selfish needs. However, Duncan was good to Macbeth, in naming him Thane of Cawdor, and showed how inhumane and cold he was. Also, Macbeth has Banquo, who was once his best friend and closest ally, killed. Macbeth becomes slightly fearful of Banquo, so decides to kill him. Macbeth often resorts to this method of killing whomever he is threatened by, and it does him no good. Macbeth shows his fear of Banquo, when in talking about him, he states There is none but he whos being I do fear (III, i, ll. 59-60). Finally, Macbeth does away with the family of Macduff. This is a huge mistake on the part of Macbeth, because in doing so, he awoke an enormous rage within Macduff. Macduff then swore never to rest until he had taken his revenge upon Macbeth, and Macduff does, in turn, be the one to kill Macbeth in the end. Macbeths downfall can also be attributed to many unnecessary killings which enraged many and caused them to team up against him in the end. The third, and most influential, cause of Macbeths downfall can be attributed to his many flaws in character. One major flaw that Macbeth possessed was his weak and easily controlled personality. Through the novel a constant pattern of being controlled by women came about. This happened on quite a number of occasions and centered on the Werd Sisters and his very own Lady Macbeth. With the witches, Macbeth lost all control over his own actions and just did whatever he could in order to fulfill the prophecies of the witches. He let them tell him whatever should and would happen, and he believed that it was the right thing to do. For instance, when the witches stated that he shall become king, he decided to kill both Duncan and Malcolm in order to become king, even though neither man was his foe. His feelings are well illustrated when he states, The Prince of Cumberland! That is a stepin my way it lieslet not light see my black and deep desires (I, iv, ll. 55-58). This also reveals another flaw in the character of Macbeth. This shows how whenever Macbeth was faced with a problem or an obstacle, he decided to kill whomever was the cause and he believed that this would solve all of his problems. Even though it may have worked in order to promote him to king, it presented many more problems. Killing everyone he didnt get along with was a major flaw of Macbeth and caused many to be enraged toward him and take their revenge. Yet another example of Macbeth being controlled by women has to deal with the subject of unneeded killings as well. Even though Macbeth had been contemplating killing Duncan in order to gain the seat of the throne, he began to have second thoughts. Had he gone on his own feelings, he may have held back from killing Duncan and had been successful at the high post of Thane of Cawdor. However, the diabolical Lady Macbeth proceeded to call her husband a coward and told him to cast his fears aside and go with his plan. This led Macbeth to go on and kill Duncan, which was just the first step in his long killing spree. All of these are many of the flaws amongst the character of Macbeth which caused him to make many decisions and behave in ways that were the major contribution to this tragic heros downfall. Macbeth had many factors which contributed to his downfall ranging from fate, to errors in judgment, to especially his many flaws in character. Every heros reign has to come to an end, but Macbeth managed to bring the end along much more rapidly due to his many mistakes and bad qualities. Through the play, I found Macbeth to be a very close-minded and stubborn individual who does not change his ways. Up until the end of the play, Macbeth still believed in the witches prophecies and in the sayings of the three apparitions. So, obviously, Macbeth did not change his attitude. Also, Macbeth never prepared for battle in the end and tried to win on his own. All of these factors show that Macbeth did not, in fact, gain any measure of wisdom or self-awareness, but remained the cocky, self-confident man he always was. .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 , .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .postImageUrl , .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 , .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893:hover , .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893:visited , .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893:active { border:0!important; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893:active , .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893 .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf5257d4e065d20faeaeaed304dc6e893:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Conflict in The Most Dangerous Game Essay We will write a custom essay on The Downfall of Macbeth specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now

Reedsy's @shaelinbishop shares her experience as a 5-time #NaNoWriMo winner At the time this is published, it's near the end of October. If you're doing NaNoWriMo, you're probably pretty ready to go and have  done most of the prep or all the prep you wanted to do.Unless you followed me on my personal channel way back when I was doing NaNoWriMo (which was a very long time ago), you won't have heard me talk about my own writing journey. With November just around the corner, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share my NaNoWriMo journey and just talk about the benefits it had for me and how it shaped me as a writer.I did NaNoWriMo five times: every single year I was in high school starting in 2010 when I was 13 years old. I saw the term float around on random social media. I looked it up, and as soon as I realized what NaNoWriMo was, I was like, "That sounds awesome. I want to try doing that."At the time I was writing a novel. Instead of waiting until next year (because when you're 13 that seems so far away), I made an account, and I signed up. I was using the Young Writers Programme where you can set your own word goal. I just set my own word goal for 15,000, and I did NaNoWriMo for like one week and that was my first NaNoWriMo experience. Finishing my first bookWhat has your experience with NaNoWriMo been like? If you have any questions for Shaelin, or thoughts on this annual competition, drop them in the comments below.

A Journal opinion article Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

A Journal opinion article - Essay Example Despite the promise to cut debts by half, Federal debts has gone up by 52% reaching $16.2 trillion a thing unheard of in the US. In the year 2007 US underwent the worst recession since the great depression that robbed that saw stocks hitting their bottom just before 2009. This changed after January 2009 when Dow Jones Average went up 70%, Standard & Poor 500 index went up 81 %, and NASDAQ complex index went up 119% (Jackson web). The levels of unemployment stood at 7.8% as they are as at September 2012. Although millions lost jobs immediately, Obama took oath the government has managed to pull the economy to the position of absorbing the same and providing extra jobs. Just before the recession, the level of unemployment had gone down to less that 5% only to rise in 2009 to as high as 10% (Jackson web). The poor state of the economy prevented the level from falling again and it took nearly two years to lower the level even by a small margin. However, the economy has slowly regained mo st of the lost jobs and predictions promise more jobs in the next coming months. The level of unemployed Americans is 12.1 million, which is the lowest since January 2009. A drop from 8.1% to 7.8% before the elections gave Obama a positive boot to winning the elections just a month away (Jackson web). Although some sectors like manufacturing has lost many jobs and some critics use it to bring the government down and to prove that no progress has taken place at all. Some even suggest that the government have skewed numbers to aid Obama re-election into government. The bureau of statistics has come out to confirm that really some jobs have been created and that the economy is actually moving forward. However, several other indicators suggest otherwise and confirm a slow growth of the economy. For instance, the US treasury, note went up by a small percentage depicting that investors are now willing to shift their investments from bonds to stocks. In fact, the prices of some stocks have gone up by a significant percentage with Dow Jones industrial average going up. Less income to families and increased poverty levels is another challenge blamed on Obama government. It is true that many families have suffered financially in the past few years and the poverty levels have gone up. In fact, household income and family income declined by a significant percentage or stagnated to some. Due to high levels of unemployment, the number of Americans living below the poverty line went up and was at 46.2 million in the year 2011. This is a rise from 46.3% in the year 2010 (Jackson web). In addition, food supplemental aid increased from increasing poverty levels. However, due to recession that occurred in the year 2007, household incomes were already declining or stagnant when Obama took office in 2009. The good news is that with the declining levels of unemployment, household income and family income will soon report an increase. Obama’s government has been blamed for ri sing fuel prices, which has doubled since he took over government. To be precise, the price was at $1.85 by end of January 2009 but at October 2012, this figure has gob has gone up to $3.8 (Jackson web). Although the prices of oil remain up, oil imports have gone down with a significant amount. In addition, dependence on oil has gone down with the country turning to other better sources like wind power and

Vegetarians Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Vegetarians - Essay Example Many humans follow omnivorous diet taking dramatic nutritional advantage flexibility that is not there to other omnivorous species. However, the flexibility has risks like failing to consume significant nutrients or harmful microbes or ingesting toxins an issue that gets known as "the omnivore dilemma". In contrast with animals, who instinctively are sure on what food to eat and what to avoid, human beings should learn these differences, relying heavily on the transmitted cultural information. Hence, the cultural information kinds that guide food selections are not well comprehended. Across the two studies in the article, they have given evidence on the psychological vegetarian's underpinnings are marked distinction in Indian cultural and Euro-American contexts. The Euro-American vegetarians seem to have more consideration of the daily food choices impact on the animal and environmental welfare (Ruby et al. 342). The consideration is more endorsed on universalistic values of equality , social justice, and peace than did their counterparts of omnivorous and less endorsed to authority ethic. On the contrary, the Indian vegetarians do not differ from their counterparts of omnivorous in reported environment concern, universalism, or animal welfare, though are more religious. They strongly believe that eating meat pollutes an individual personality and spirit and more endorsed on Purity Ethics, Authority, and In-group. Hence, different communities have different opinions and beliefs on vegetarian choices.

Until today, BER continues to proudly practice Responsible Tourism. The development of the resort was completely manmade and hand-built, without using any technology. SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL Sustainable materials are materials that can be used throughout our everyday lives and it is used in the present without compromising its availability for use by latter generations. It also means that sustainable materials are materials that can be produced in required volumes without depleting non-renewable resources and also without disrupting the equilibrium of the environment. A sustainable material used in a building usually benefits the humans and also the general environment. It is this sustainability that is keeping the environment ecosystem balanced and it is actually accommodating the earth. It is not easy to fully describe what a sustainable material is and the best way of explaining it is to look at it as the materials that are being used to achieve environmental benefits unlike any other conventional materials. Sustainable materials do share some general characteristics which are the natural abundance, the help to extract some amount of energy used and also the help of r ecycling. 3.  THE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS USED IN THE TWO BUILDINGS Both the Villa and the modern house are built using reinforced concrete as their building structure. Reinforced concrete, in its many forms, is an important building material that can provide many sustainable advantages by virtue of its economic construction, thermal mass, durability, fire resistance, acoustic performance, adaptability and recyclability. Concrete is one of the sustainable building materials that is always being used in most buildings and when both the energy consumed during its manufacture and its inherent properties in-use are taken into account. Whereas, reinforced concrete, it is a composite material comprising concrete and steel. Concrete provides high compressive strength while steel on the other hand provides its tensile strength in the form of embedded reinforcing bars and mesh. Reinforced concrete is chosen to be used in both the Villa and the modern house because concrete is a friend of the environment in all stages of its life span, from raw material produc tion to demolition, making it a natural choice for sustainable home construction. Besides that, reinforced concrete construction has also been developed for low-energy construction and thus it is very suitable to be used in both the Villa and the modern house. Other than that, the similar sustainable materials used the in the villa and the modern house is steel. This is because steel is an excellent reusable material. Steel can also be recycled from time to time without any deprivation in the properties or even the quality of the steel performance. Steel construction in the industry nowadays has always been outstanding in the low waste credentials during all life cycle stages of the building. It is the fact where steel construction generates very little waste. Any waste generated during construction of steel is being recycled. This is therefore, not even any waste from steel products on the construction site can be found. Steel is chosen to be used as staircases in both the Villa and the modern house in the Belum Rainforest Resort because steel has one of the uppermost strength to weight ratio of any other construction material. Other than that, steel also provides a clean, effective and fast construction technique, which will not affect t he building activities on the environment of the Belum Rainforest Resort. The entire steel used as the staircases there in the Villa and the modern house are 100% recyclable. Lastly, the similar sustainable material used in the villa and the modern house in Belum Rainforest Resort is glass. Glass produces very little environmental influence to the resort that will make it a good sustainable material of choice to be used in both the Villa and the modern house. In addition to that, glass is made out of many unpolluted materials that are not contaminated and its developing process is highly energy efficient that will only require low level of water. The making of glass and the construction of glass actually generates very little waste. Glass is used as windows, skylights and openings in the Villa and modern house. Glass is an ideal sustainable material to be used because even if the windows or the skylights in the Villa and the modern house in the Belum Rainforest Resort is broken, the broken pieces of the glass are recyclable. Thus, this will contributes to even lower environmental impact. Glass is also very essential in the Villa and the modern house becau se glass allows maximum sunlight to penetrate into the buildings and also allow maximum views outside the buildings. These transparency characteristic of glass very special among the sustainable building materials and it definitely provide many advantages to both the Villa and the modern house. 4. ADVANTAGES OF USING SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL In a sustainable building, professional workers like the architects, the engineers and the contractors are required to work together on the sustainable materials used and also the material constructions. Sustainable design and its construction method used actually helps to reduce on emissions of polluted gasses released into the earth’s ozone layer. It also helps to decrease the water and energy costs. The advantages of using sustainable materials in the Villa and the modern house can be commonly be categorized in the subsequent methods which are the environmental advantages, economic advantages and social advantages. The main reason of using sustainable materials in the Villa and the modern house is to preserve our mother nature and avoid the reduction of the earth’s natural resources. The environmental benefits when sustainable changes are made throughout each stage of the project’s progress in the Belum Rainforest Resort allow us to protect the ecology of the famous Royal Belum National Park and to reduce emissions of polluted gases. It also helps to enhance the air and water value, preserve water, decrease waste streams, conserve and restore natural resource, helps to control and reduce waste and lastly, to control the temperature. Not only does a sustainable material help to improve the quality of the environment in the Royal Belum Rainforest Resort but it also has many commercial advantages as well. From the usage of sustainable materials, decreasing energy intake, and improving water efficiency will allow us to reduce the operating charges, helps to optimize the life cycle of the Building, increase property value in Belum and improve the number of visitors coming to the famous Royal Belum Rainforest Resort. Eventhough the environmental and economic adv antages of the sustainable materials and sustainable buildings are acknowledged, the social advantages of the sustainable materials and the sustainable buildings are often not being taken into account. By refining the interior ecological value in the Villa and the modern house, and at the same time, we can also improve the visitors comfort and health. Besides that, we are able to create an aesthetically pleasing environment in the Royal Belum Rainforest Resort. It also helps to minimize the strain on local infrastructure, helps to increase the awareness of the workers working in the resort and to increase the workers’ productivity. 5. SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL LIFE TIME IN THE BUILDING Basically, a sustainable building’s life time environmental effect embraces all working and exemplified components. Working impacts are those materials that consume energy when it is in use whereas the exemplified impacts are always because of the production and construction of the building materials. The durability of reinforced concrete structures in the Villa and the modern house in Belum Rainforest is mostly reliant on the worth of the concrete, least amount of contraction or cracking in the concrete, little to literally nothing amount of oxidization of the reinforced steel in the reinforced concrete, remedial of concrete, and excellence organization of reinforced concrete structure. If the concrete structure is properly designed and constructed it is going to be very long lasting and only little maintenance is required. The durability of the reinforced concrete in the Villa and the modern house is influenced by the exposure conditions or the area of exposure, the type of cement used and the quality of concrete used. Steel is used as the staircase in the Villa and also the modern house. One of the very good explanations for selecting steel staircases is their unbelievable strength and great durability. Steel staircases are very solid and are able of supporting huge quantities of mass. This is actually does not only benefits the people who use the stairs but it also means that we can actually create more rare stair plans. Steel itself is already very strong material and there is no need to even worry about the expanding or contracting of the steel in the weather disorders in Malaysia. Plus, steel staircases will not rot, warp or even succumb to termites. The steel staircases in the Villa and also the modern house are also being preserved so that it won’t corrode or oxidize even if they are in contact with water or air. Yet another reason steel staircase chosen to be built in the Villa and the modern house is because it is very reasonable. Steel staircases, when it is properly bring about, will last for more than ten years and only very little maintenance or even no maintenance at all is needed. No replacement of structural component or painting is even needed at all because they last so long and they are very durable. The durability of glass can be witnessed in our everyday lives especially in most cities with ancient churches.Glass in the Villa is used at the windows, skylights and openings. Whereas, Glass in the modern house is used as windows. Glass has extremely high durability and it will not break at all unless it is smashed by extreme masses. If not, the glass will continue to stay the same for an extended period of time. Actually, a normal glass can already resist masses applied at fast rates and it is better than the same weight being pressured over a slower period. The only thing is that glass actually agonizes from the pressure oxidization. 5.1 BUILDING CONCEPT USED IN THESE TWO BUILDINGS Green building or sustainable building concept basically concentrates mainly on two points which is to improve the efficiency of the buildings which consume energy, water and materials and also to decrease the building footprint on the environment and also the impact to the human’s health. All these can be taken through a better site selection, the design of the building, construction method of the sustainable materials used in the Villa and the modern house, procedure taken, maintenance when the work is done, and removal throughout the complete life cycle. The concept of green building includes and incorporates a variation of approaches during the design, construction and operation of building projects. The consumption of green building materials and products represents one important strategy in the design of a building. By using green building materials or sustainable materials, it brings a lot of advantages to everyone. By using sustainable materials in the Villa and also t he modern house in Belum, it helps to reduce the maintenance cost or the additional charges over the lifespan of the building because sustainable materials does not really need maintenance. Sustainable materials help to conserve energy in the Villa and also the modern house. Besides that, it will also help to improve occupant’s health and productivity. Sustainable construction materials are always being used by many developers and its used in all the buildings in Belum Rainforest because it brings a lot of benefit and it has numerous features like nothing or little harmfulness, great recyclability, nothing or little off gassing of polluted air discharges. Sustainable materials have very high durability, it can be reused and recycled, and it is sustainably harvested material. 6. THE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS EFFECT ON THE POETIC QUALITY IN THE BUILDINGS Both the Villa and the modern house are built using reinforced concrete as their building structure. However, both of these buildings have very different poetic quality. The usage of reinforced concrete in the Villa makes the building look huge and spacious and thus, it creates a very dramatic and welcoming feeling. In contrary to the former, the modern house itself has very limited area and the usage of reinforced concrete in the building makes the modern house looks clean and the fact that the house is actually very small is being concealed by the cleanliness and the simplicity of the reinforced concrete structure. The usage of steel in the Villa in Belum Rainforest is used at the staircase and also the windows framing. Steel staircase in the Villa creates a very open and light feeling as you are walking up and down the stairs. This is because the staircase itself is very light and and because of the gaps between the railings and the holes on the treads and risers, it gives the use r a very open feeling and also it creates a floating feeling. The steel stairs in the modern house helps to soften the building because from far, the modern house basically looks like a square concrete box and with the stairs, the modern house looks balanced with volume and geometry. Glass is used in the Villa in Belum Rainforest as the openings, skylights and windows. The glass in the Villa creates a very open area as if you’re standing or living outdoor next to the nature but you’re actually indoor in an enclosed space. The poetic quality of the glass in the Villa is that it creates an outdoor feeling even though youre actually indoor. Glass in the modern house is used as a frame. It frames the trees outside the modern house and it creates and extra space outside the modern house to give a feeling as if the modern house is actually bigger than it is. It’s basically helps to volumize the indoor and outdoor space of the modern house. 7. Conclusion The sustainable materials used in the Villa and also the modern house in Belum has successfully made the building a green building and has successfully Increase the efficiency of the buildings which are using energy, water and materials. It has also successfully reduced the building effects of people’s health and also the atmosphere. The Villa is to hold any event and to accommodate friends and a few families while the modern is to only accommodate a couple or two friends. It is fascinating how these two buildings that were built using the same building materials but have different poetic qualities in their building. The sustainable materials used in the two buildings have successfully created different poetic quality with the use of the same materials. I feel that it is time for the government and the developers to be aware of the importance of using sustainable materials in a building to save the environment and also the earth.

Gay Marriage: A Modern Soddom and Gomorra Essay -- Against Gay Marriag

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Gay parenting and marriage has become publicly accepted by some and rejected by others. Many have come to believe this topic to be immoral and impossible. Society has also realized that the average family has developed into many different forms in the last few years. Gay families have developed and are perceived today that raising kids without both a Mom and Dad, deprives the child from being introduced to both worlds. The approach to this debated topic will be to analyze and to defend the â€Å"cons† of gay parenting and marriage.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ever since the beginning of creation, God made man and woman to reproduce and create humanity. God never in between allowed or said that same sex marriage was permissible or was the natural way to create a generation. For example in Genesis chapter 19 the story of Sodom and Gomorrah explained the wickedness of the city that mainly strived from homosexuality. Genesis 19:5- And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us that we may know them. The city’s perverseness made God infuriated and led to the destruction of that city turning it into fire and brimstone. This gives evidence that homosexuality is a religious sin, which is analogous to many other Biblical prohibitions, like committing adultery which transgresses ethics.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  According to the Bible, Deuteronomy 32:46- And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. It is impossible to raise children when both parents are the same sex because it isn’t natural and goes against biblical standards. In addition, children won’t have the example from their parents to do different than they do and make better decisions that please God.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Some issues that are argued on the topic of gay parenting is that gay parenting is no different from heterosexual parenting." Many studies have stated this, but, according to University of Chicago's professor of ethics and social sciences Don Browning, none of these studies were absolute. Other studies show that children raised by homosexuals were more unhappy with their own gender, had more frequent homosexual experiences , and endured a greater rate of molestation by family members (CT). Adolescent Identity Development Essay

Lord of the Flies Novel by William Golding: The Importance of Self-Discovery Lord Of Flies( The Importance of self-discovery) 1 Human should understand the importance of self-discovery. In the Lord of the Flies, Ralph, Simon and Samneric learned the weaknesses and darkness within the human hearts. People grows up when they faces a challenge. Ralph Ds challenge is how to be a good and responsible leader. Simon’s challenge is how to speak at front of people. Samneric’s challenge is how to make right choice. The truth about self-discovery may be cruel, but it is worth to learn from it. Ralph is being a playful, innocent child in the beginning of the story, but towards the end he matures significantly. Excluding Piggy, Ralph is the most mature and responsible member of the boys, for he is concerned throughout the book with keeping the fire on the mountain going, and building shelter. † If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire. † pg,37 Ralph always has the strong belief that all the children will be saved from the island sooner or later, but at middle part of the story he begins to doubting it. At end of the story, after the death of Piggy, Ralph’s encounter with the Lord of the Flies, he knocks over the pig’s skull. † A sick tear and rage swept him. Fiercely he hit out at the filthy thing in front of him that bobbed like a toy and came back, still grinning into his face, so that he lashed and cried out in loathing. † pg206 Ralph realize the evil is part of him and just as to other boys. However, he is the only person who acknowledges the importance of being responsible, and he takes over as a true leader even though he is not necessarily good at it.    3Sam and Eric represents the crowd in modern society, Just like every ordinary human. They are faithful and mostly good. They can be described as loyalist in the story. Their rule is to serve whomever is the leader. For example when Jack says † Grab them! No one moved. Jack shouted angrily. I said † grab them†! † Samneric finally give into his threats on their travel to Castle Rock. Later, then betray Ralph, by showing his hiding place to Jack. † You’re sure he meant in there? The twin moaned faintly and then squealed again. † † He meant he’d hide in there? † pg. 214 In this way, Samneric symbolize the weakness of human nature. They have lose any real sense of loyalty to others.

Taking Blood Pressure Measurement

Taking Blood Pressure Measurement Introduction One important lesson in medical education is how to measure the vital signs of life such as blood pressure. For one to understand how to perform this accurately, it requires attention to detail, correct technique and careful listening (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003). The term blood pressure is taken from the fluctuating pressure that blood applies against arterial walls as the heart alternately expands and contracts.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Taking Blood Pressure Measurement specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This pressure is useful in that it can be used to assess the condition of the heart, amount of blood forced out of the heart at contraction, condition of the arteries and to some extent the viscosity and volume of the blood (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003).  The blood pressure of an individual is measured in the brachial artery of the arm at the antecubital space (See Figure I). Initially measuremen t should be performed on both hands as there is normally a 5-10mm difference (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003). After this subsequent readings should be continued on the arm with higher pressure. The maintenance of blood pressure is mainly the result of two related factors. The first being the heart which is responsible for pumping blood round the human body. The human heart reportedly contracts almost 100,000 times daily forcing blood through the aorta and the entire range of blood vessels (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003). A strong pump is essential to make sure that the blood flows and the pressure does not drop. In this report a discussion will be presented on how to provide a computer mediated lesson to teach how to measure blood pressure to a group of students. In addition to this a suitable method of evaluation will be selected to assist the instructor assess how well the learners understood the topic. Also to be discussed in the report is the role and effectiveness of one authoring to ols that will be used in presenting the learning material to the learner’s. Method of Evaluation The purpose of evaluation of a learner is to establish whether what was taught has been understood (Reeves Hedberg, 2003). It is reported that the most important function of evaluation is review of what has been presented to the learner. It is hoped that through reviewing the highlights of what was learnt the learner can recap and develop a sound understanding of the concepts taught (Reeves Hedberg, 2003). Prior to taking an evaluation it is important that the learner review the text or the material that was used in instruction.  Another crucial but sometimes underutilized function of evaluation is needs assessment (Reeves Hedberg, 2003). In the case of taking blood pressure it may be crucial that a needs assessment form part of the evaluation process depending on at which stage the learners are in the course.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In this case a practical needs assessment evaluation may need to be undertaken to ensure the learner is fully conversant with what is required to successfully carry out the blood pressure test. This would is sometimes known as a formative evaluation. A more detailed test may require a learner to carry out the actual tests and record results. Such an evaluation is more rigorous and may be classified as a formative evaluation. As indicated above the evaluation methods used can either be formative or summative. In the case where formative evaluation is used the goal of the teacher is to establish the progression of students towards meeting the learning goals. In this case this suggests progress in the class towards learning how to complete the test and its relevance (Oermann and Gaberson, 2009). On the other hand where summative evaluation is used the goal of the teacher will be to establish the student has com pleted the set of goals required within the rotation such as a term or semester (Oermann and Gaberson, 2009). This position shows clearly that the assessment will depend on the duration for which this task will be covered and whether it will be part of a set of tasks that are completed within a length of time. However, if the task is a one off affair a formative evaluation will be appropriate. This may include a brief set of questions to ascertain whether the learners were paying attention during the lecture. Some questions on what materials are required and the main points of how to take a blood pressure reading could form the evaluation. Instructional techniques In the selection of an appropriate instructional technique it is important to know when a specific instructional technique is best applied. Given that that this lesson will be computer mediated it appears a lecture will be the most suitable technique for providing the lesson or lessons. This is because lectures are best ap plicable to a lesson when the instructor intends to give an overview of a greater issue (Sharma, 2007). The lecture can be taken to e appropriate as it allows the instructor a longer time to discuss the issue at hand. As with the case of taking blood pressure a lecture or series of lectures is important as it will help put the issue into its correct perspective. As with any illness it is necessary to understand causes and possible circumstances to avoid. A lengthy discussion such as this would require ample time. In addition to time to speak the instructor can make use of the computer or information technology to make the lecture more interesting (Sharma, 2007). This is because a lecture is also useful when the instructor wants to aid or supplement student reading.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Taking Blood Pressure Measurement specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In such cases an instructor can ask the class to read on a specific topic and later prepare a brief lecture or series of lectures to expand on the materials that the learners covered in their individual reading.  A lecture is also useful when the instructor needs to provide the learner with background information on the topic. In such cases the learner will then be able to go about the study of the topic more intelligently (Sharma, 2007). Without an appropriate introduction it is sometimes impossible for a learner to determine how deep and wide to study the desired subject. However, for introductory purposes a lecture can be very appropriate.  Another reason why the lecture may be an appropriate mode of instruction is because the instructor may want to allow the students more time for in depth study or assignments or other tasks (Sharma, 2007). Given that this task was to be accomplished in a semester of a nursing course it is likely that the student would be required to handle some assignments after completing the lesson. It is no t uncommon for learners to be given tasks such as assignments to assist them gain deeper understanding (Sharma, 2007). In such a case therefore a lecture will be useful in acting as a suitable eye opener and providing descriptive boundaries to consider when doing further reading. A lecture can also be very useful when the instructor wants to arouse interest in the learner. Introducing a new and perhaps complex article is likely to be difficult and complicated. However, with the use of an interesting well arranged and presented lecture a student can be aroused and enticed to enjoy an otherwise difficult or complex topic (Sharma, 2007). In addition to the above the instructor may want to use the opportunity of a lecture to teach terms associated with the topic or clarify common misconceptions. Such occasions are best dealt with when the instructor opts to give an audible explanation. In addition to providing information this also acts as an opportunity to allow learners to ask questio ns about the topic. Learner Activities Since the subject matter in this case is related to medical studies we will use some information from medical studies to guide us in selection of learner activities. It has been reported that medical studies are best learnt when the learner s are motivated (Distlehorst, Dunnington and Folse, 2000). It has bee suggested that an interesting activity that may captivate the learner’s upon completion of the lecture is a practical opportunity to attempt to take the blood pressure and listen in on the different phases. Blood pressure phases are identical to the phases of the pulse and an opportunity to physically perform the examination should be fairly exciting to most of the students (Kier, Wise and Krebs, 2003).Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In addition to that another activity that the learner’s can participate in where the course is being offered near a clinic is an arrangement to walk in at scheduled times and assist the nurses in performing the examination. This activity is thought to be useful as learning is thought to be efficient when there is feedback to the learner (Distlehorst, Dunnington and Folse, 2000). Such an opportunity is bound to be efficient as there is immediate feedback each time the student does something the right or wrong way. In addition to the above two the normal activities such as assignments may also be used to follow up on learning and even for evaluation of learning. Computer Mediated Learning Authoring Tool For the purposes of preparing a lecture or series of lectures on how to take blood pressure measurement a multimedia authoring tool such as PowerPoint may be used. Such tools allow the user to bring together various multimedia components to bring together a powerful presentation (See Figure I). For example on may incorporate pictures, audio and tables or charts and even video to make the presentation of a lecture very interesting (Stroman, Wilson Wauson, 2008). PowerPoint is typically called a slide show program and its main feature is it allows the preparation of a presentation one slide at a time or in a linear fashion. Each slide can allow the presenter to attach any of the multimedia content earlier mentioned and may allow some degree of branching (Stroman, Wilson Wauson, 2008). The software was selected because it is readily available and fairly easy to learn. References Distlehorst, L. H., Dunnington, G., Folse, J. R. (2000). Evaluation of the business strategy of a chosen company Assignment

Evaluation of the business strategy of a chosen company - Assignment Example In the second wave we can see concepts of standardization and mass production as center of attention of economist and scientist alike. These systems were basically focused on maximizing production and minimizing inputs. These concepts of mass production have their driving force in the massive increase in population over the last few centuries. With the massive increase in population the only route to success was to increase production and minimize cost. This was basically because technology in genetics was still not advanced, that meant you could not increase production from your raw materials and land many times over. The only control humans had at that moment was on machines, therefore they engaged in a massive mechanization of humans and production systems alike. This revolution was not only aimed towards manufacturing but services as well. This affected local shops and small businesses as they began to die out because they could not compete on price with machine inputs. This revo lution was psychological as well as economic people began to look alike, dress alike and think alike. In similar words individuality was slowly becoming obsolete and absent. Over time the second wave began to end as we reached the third wave practices of second wave were slowly abolished. The human society began to revert back to old practices and customs. One of the biggest signs of this reversion was birth control. Great emphasis was now being laid on keeping population in check. The concepts of standardization and mass production once again became obsolete. Emphasis was laid on individuality and personality once again. This information wave has triggered a ‘need’ in each human being to be different from others. Therefore in the present age the concept of small business catering to specific needs is once again in demand. These small businesses in management theory are usually termed SME (Small Medium Enterprise)

The different negotiation styles between U.S. and Sweden Research Paper

The different negotiation styles between U.S. and Sweden - Research Paper Example   The business environment in Sweden and U.S. is completely different as analyzed by PEST analysis. According to AMB Country Report (2010), Sweden has very low economic risk, political risk and financial risk. Political conditions in Sweden are very stable for doing business. For example, although Sweden is a member of European Union, however, it has not joined European Exchange Rate Mechanism because political parties argue that Euro cannot be adopted without the public referendum (AMB Country Risk Report, 2010). With a population of 9 million in 2010, annual GDP growth rate of 4.5 percent in 2010, inflation rate of 1.4 percent and abundant of natural resources of forests, timber, arsenic, copper, gold, silver, zinc, tungsten, hydroelectric power, iron, uranium, feldspar and arsenic, Sweden offers ideal economic conditions to conduct business (Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, 2010). Swedish people have direct communication style; however, they are usually quiet, reserve an d shy. Moreover, they prefer working in flat hierarchical organizational structures with informal working conditions and authority at all hierarchical levels (Communicaid, 2009). Technological developments and innovation in Sweden provide a highly competitive business environment. According to Global Information Technology Report 2009-2010, Sweden is the highest scorer in Information and Communication Technology (Hennigan, 2010). Companies operating in U.S. are more exposed to political risks because of high government interference.   ... According to Global Information Technology Report 2009-2010, Sweden is the highest scorer in Information and Communication Technology (Hennigan, 2010). Companies operating in U.S. are more exposed to political risks because of high government interference. Early U.S. leaders believed in Laissez-faire concept which opposes government interference except to sustain law and order and the new leads are seeking to develop close ties between business and government (U.S. Department of State). U.S. is a developed state with 9.65 million population in 2010, GDP growth of 3.5 percent in 2009 and highly developed manufacturing and service sector (U.S. Department of State, 2010). People in U.S. are very excited and adventurous towards their tasks and they prefer working individually rather than teams (LMSCO, 2004). Technological conditions in U.S. are very favorable for businesses and it is evident from the fact that U.S. has been rated on number 2 in the last of top ten innovation driven econo mies (Virki, 2010). Negotiation styles vary based on culture. According to Hofstede, negotiators in the national cultures with high power distance are more comfortable with hierarchical structures, transparent authority figures and in an environment where the right to use power with discretion is preferred. On the other hand, negotiators in the national cultures with low power distance are more comfortable with flat hierarchies and democratic structures, shared authority and in the environment where the right to use power is limited to certain circumstances (LeBaron). The negotiation styles of U.S. and Swedish negotiators vary because American negotiators are aggressive, strong and have a formal
